Perfect allegory. Anybody can TAKE a reservation!

I find it to be evident which companies truly care about their customers. It can be as simple as staying on the line during a transfer to another department, to ensure proper hand-off. Quality customer service seems to be more and more rare these days. It is good to see companies who make it not an aside, but a central tenet.

Great comments, Michael. Hopefully what we're seeing are general movements in improved customer care and a focus on corporate culture that looks beyond the bottom line.

Brian,

Nice article, and the stories are heartwarming. It is good to hear companies doing the right thing. Especially when they are rewarded for doing so, like the landscaping company which received great PR, which they could not have anticipated. It is the selfless nature of these acts which are so inspiring.

A for-profit, or for-exposure "campaign" may erode the "warm and fuzzies" that the preceding examples elicit, but companies can certainly learn that a little bit of compassion goes a long way.

Good post, Brian. As a former association journal editor, I was responsible for a 1250 word article every month, along w. my editing responsibilities. I often fought creativity "block" but found that my best article ideas came to me when I wasn't so focused on what I should write about. In other words, don't stress about it and your natural creativity won't fail you!
